Good video. We are in Nebraska and stopped at that rest stop. I don't know what you do in that case. Normally you do what the man did but it's not worth it. I guess just driving away is what you should do. Thanks for sharing. We been on the road FT for 4 years with no issues. But I've noticed a slight change in people as we have come down the middle of the country. We are also not staying in our normal parks. We normally just keep to ourselves and hit the road on our motorcycle for filming and adventure. Thanks for this video.

I remember in the 80s there was a kill for thrill murderer on I 10 in rural Florida. There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood/place. Be aware. Practice at the range. Predators seek who they think are venerable. Stand up straight carry a flashlight at night. Don't wear pajama pants and flip flops.

California and Oregon are allowing homeless to live in rest stops. Be aware of this before stopping.

Excellent video and thank you....I wear a lanyard with my car keys hanging from it when pumping gas/restroom break.....should someone approach you in an odd manner hit the panic button on key....draws attention to you and gas station people notice some one is bothering you....if anything it interrupts the situation for a moment so you can do something else like get away.....Also I lived on second floor apt and my car was in garage below on 1st floor...worked there too...distract the criminal of his intentions.

The description for VHB tape describes it as "permanent bonding tape". Have you ever tried to remove it from the side of your motorhome? I would like to use it to mount a video door bell but am worried about damaging the side of our coach if I used it.

Excellent heads up for safety! Always lock. We employ walkie talkies if one gets out to stretch legs at rest stop. The other locks door. Instant communication. Just picked up some pepper gel spray (doesn't blow back on you).We don't fuel up near large cities (diesel truck stops).

Nice job on review ! One more point to mention ...the roof material protection. Many of the roofs on travel trailers do not hold up well ??? So again the cover keeps the elements away. You do have to check for Abraision wear on some at top edges...we had to glue metal strips on one of our trailers to protect that area. Also not good on Airstreams...they have a clear coat that will wear through. Great job, Don

You are absolutely right. Everyone needs to decide well before a negative encounter if they are willing and able to defend their lives to the fullest. There will not be time to struggle with that at the time you need it. Hesitation could cost you dearly.

Don't you have to keep up on where you can legally carry?

Also being from NJ, I know it's nearly impossible for a civilian to get a carry permit. State to state reciprocity can leave you with jail time and heavy fines. Because of this, my firearm stays locked up at home while we're on the road. I generally am very aware of whats going on around me, but could be over powered since I'm older. Is there a device that is legal state to state that would at least stop someone from continuing to attack? Thanks for your advice on this issue.

I’m a female trucker as well and I never walk around at night at any rest stop and if I’m at a truck stop I carry my pepper spray with me. And you always always always trust your instincts. There’s been a few times where I got creepy feelings when I was at rest stopped and I just hopped in the driver seat and drove away and went somewhere different.

Another thing we learned about UA-cam is, if you have a lot of channels subscribed to and you have the bell highlighted on all of your channels, it takes forever to open your folder of favorite channels. We use Starlink for our WiFi so we have super fast download speed and it is still slow. In order to speed up opening my favorites I only have about 10 percent of the bells highlighted.

Absolutely need to protect yourself. It’s sad what happened to that couple. This is another situation that proves 2A is required.

It is sad to see the current state of our nation. It doesn't matter what your political affiliation is, you should always have the right to defend yourself using any means necessary.

Many surviving victims of stranger violence often reveal beforehand that they had a bad feeling, knew something wasn’t right etc, but they dismissed it. Decent people don’t want to be viewed as biased, racist, judgmental, mean, or whatever’s the label of the month these days. If someone or somewhere doesn’t feel good, it usually isn’t. Centuries of genetic evolution cause the hair on the back of our necks to stand up from genetic skills developed to help us survive that very harsh world. How often have we heard or even said “I just knew something wasn’t quite right.” Do not dismiss these biological safety tools. Well lit areas are very important but also require lots of legitimate users present. Quiet and secluded can be lit like the sun or even just a travellers utopia until an assailant has their way with you in that area where no one can hear you scream, call for help etc. It’s called natural surveillance where another lawful person is present that could call for help or even attempt to intervene. This type of area is often a deterrent for career or intended criminals and should always be sought after by travellers, especially unarmed and or vulnerable ones. For mentally ill people that do random acts of violence, do your best to just avoid being in the same space as them. Most of the time these people are easily detected by irratic beahviour or a very disheveled appearance. Yes it’s heartbreaking to see mentally ill, homeless, drug addicted etc people struggle in life and the majority are not violent but you cannot tell either way by quickly looking. If you have a conscience or want to help out then great, find a reputable charity and donate what you can. Just don’t let your good heart be the thing that gets you seriously injurred or killed. Some pro-active safety efforts go a long way to avoiding a very bad day and you can still be a good citizen while adhering to them. Safe travels folks.

I don't think I would have thought to pull a gun. These things happen so fast. Crazy people are everywhere with little to no medical treatment. 😢😢

My husband and I had a close call about a year ago. We were in our car on I 44 East in central Missouri. We stopped at a rest area after dark. First mistake. There was one pick up truck parked kind of far from the building in the parking lot. We got out and went inside to use the facilities. There were three young men inside at the vending machines. We walked past them and went into the restrooms. While I was in the restroom, I could hear the guys messing around with one of the vending machines. They were shaking it like they were trying to get something out of it. As I was finishing, I literally prayed, “Lord, I don’t know who these men are or what they intend to do, but please protect us.”🙏🏻We both came out of the restrooms a minute later, and they had gone back outside over by the pick up truck. My husband wanted to get each of us a bottle of water out of our cooler in the back seat. I got in the car, and he opened the passenger door behind the driver seat to get the water. The next thing I know, the pick up is right next to me! I yelled at my husband, “Get in the car! Get in the car!” He slammed the passenger door shut, jumped in the drivers seat and we took off out of there like a bat out of hell! That was absolutely terrifying! We agreed that we will never stop at a rest area again after dark. We will go to large gas stations or truck stops where there are lots of lights and people in the future.

Remember your ABC's: Always Be Carrying! Remember: YOU are your own first responder. Police arrive after the fact and fill out reports. The average attack is over in less than 3 minutes. No police department has that response time. Many good comments below! We always carry and stay vigilant. If one person is occupied with a task such as changing a tire the other should be on watch.

My dad was an OVR Counselor for New York State.He worked in Manhattan and was never frightened. He would never get a gun .He was then offered a job in one of the prisons in Upstate ,New York.He wanted to get out of the city so he took the job.Within 6 months my dad got a gun.We were shocked.I of course asked him what was going on and he said"Honey,these guys are terrifying and they will be getting out of here."

So was it road rage or the guy just was going to attack the next car in? Doesn’t seem like the whole story here. He should have known the guy was angry at them. Anyway thanks for the heads up.

I've carried since 18, just don't say anything

For those who can’t or don’t want to carry a firearm, carry or have at hand an air horn can or bear spray. A air horn will sound a loud alert heard for 1/2 mile.

Why is it over the past two months 90% of the RV videos or and the car videos where people live in their car are all negative? Is it just now that crime has gotten worse against those that live in an RV or car or it’s just now being mentioned which is it? I don’t doubt the authenticity of your video, but I’m just noticed every single one almost is negative.😮

Good Video. Well done. I am 79 and wife is 78 and we have done considerable RV ing and I always tried to be aware of surroundings and constantly tried to get my spouse to practice the same awareness. I think your video and advice is excellent and it should apply to all travelers on the road. We have made many road trips across country and been very fortunate. However there were times when I must admit I had questions and concerns regarding surroundings. I also think your advice could apply to stops at motels and overnight lodging. The world is becoming more unsafe everyday.

This makes me very sad. I'm a solo female traveler. If a place (campground, public lands, rest stop) feels sketchy I leave. I'd rather drive to find somewhere safer, even at midnight. Of course, not every time can be assessed or it feels safe and there are some really bad people out there. Please everyone stay alert. Look around in your area. See who's out there. Sometimes you can tell if someone is up to no good. Follow your gut. Always. Happy trails and stay safe. ❤

Who knows how that 72 yo was approached but my point is that we can’t point a gun at everyone that comes close.

And that is why The Lovely Bride and I go out and about armed for our own protection. Neither of us have any intention of being the last one hurt in a knife or gun fight. And I too am a retired LEO who saw way more than I ever thought I would and still have nightmares about almost 15 years after I retired from the profession.

I'm so sad for you guys. I had a pitbull/American bulldog mix who was my soul mate like you said. We rescued her 7 yrs before having to put her to sleep, due to a cancerous tumor on her spine. But we had rescued her from a ditch, where she was half dead to a staff infection. She knew we saved her too. Every time she looked me in the eyes, she said thank you. It was my joy and honor to have her in my life! So I grieve with y'all, knowing how heartbroken you are. Sending lots of hugs and prayers your way, Tammy
